Rambelles Fight Back to Take Final Game of UTPB Series

Odessa, TX – The Rambelles headed into the Sunday series finale in a 1-1 series split with the Falcons. After struggling to string together hits and play clean in the field on Saturday, Angelo State returned to their trademark style of play for their final game against UT – Permian Basin.

The teams once again both scored a single run in the first inning to not yield the early game momentum to their opposition. It would be the Falcons though who caught fire for the first big offensive inning of the game as they put up a crooked four spot in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-1 lead. Angelo State was not going to just roll over though as they would plate six runs on four hits, two walks, and an error to take the lead.

Makayla Corbin would allow ASU to hold onto their lead tight and she held the Falcons scoreless for the rest of the game. The Rambelles would go on to plate four more runs and take the decisive 11-5 finale victory to move to 24-10 on the season and 11-7 in Lone Star Conference play.

As a team the Rambelles plated their 11 runs on nine scattered hits. Courtney Barnhill and Karina Rocha both collected two hits and together accounted for five of the team's 11 RBI. Barnhill continued her excellent season at the plate with a 2-3 performance while driving in three runs, walking twice, and hitting a two run home run just for good measure. Rocha has also been a threat in the batter's box since returning to play as she went 2-4 with two RBI and a solo shot of her own in the sixth inning.

ASU also added on to their stolen base total for the season as they swiped four extra bags in the game. Jade Strother, who was 1-2 with two RBI, two walks, and two runs was also good for two stolen bases. Courtney Barnhill and Hatty Shope both collected a stolen base as well.

Victoria Vasquez, who typically comes out of the bullpen to close games out, was called to start the game in the circle. Vasquez would total 2.2 innings of work and give up three runs on four hits. Makayla Corbin then came in for relief and threw a very solid 4.1 innings. In her appearance, Corbin faced 18 batters but allowed only three hits and a single run.

The Rambelles will return home to Mayer field for their next matchup as they take on the 25-9 Texas A&M – Commerce Lions starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
