Markus Jones Named LSC Male Athlete of the Year

RICHARDSON, Texas - Markus Jones was named the 2019 Lone Star Conference Male Athlete of the Year on Tuesday to honor his exceptional season. Jones' remarkable 2018 performance was highlighted by signing with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent after the 2019 NFL draft. During the season, Markus recorded 84 tackles and an all-division high 36.5 tackles for a loss while breaking the Angelo State career sack record with 37. He went on for 17.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two blocked kicks as well. For his performance, Jones was named First Team All-Conference, Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, South Central Regional Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA Defensive Player of the Year, AFCA First Team All-America, Don Hansen First Team All-America, Don Hansen Defensive Player of the Year, Associated Press First Team All-America, and was the Gene Upshaw Award winner. He was also a finalist for both the Cliff Harris Award and the Harlon Hill Trophy, coming in sixth in Harlon Hill voting which ties for the highest finish in Angelo State Football history. He finishes his career with three first team All-LSC honors and was the Defensive Lineman of the Year for two consecutive seasons. Markus went on to compete in the East-West Shrine Game hosted in St. Petersburg Florida where he recorded three tackles, three assists, and two quarterback hurries.
