KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Angelo State University football team defeated Texas A&M – Kingsville on Saturday evening in the conference opener, 44-7.
The Rams improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference action.
In Case You Missed It:
- In the first quarter, ASU utilized its first possession off the kick off to go 10 plays in 3:27 for 48 yards to get on the board and take a 7-0 lead. Alize Thomas had the four-yard rush.
- The Rams defense took action quick with Austin Robinson blocking a punt for ASU to recover in the end zone for a safety and increase the Rams lead 9-0.
- Despite an ASU turnover early in the second, Deldric Shields reciprocated by returning an interception for 50-yards to put ASU in scoring position to increase the lead more.
- Halfway through the second quarter, Payne Sullins found Lawson Ayo down field to convert a 41-yard pass into an ASU touchdown to increase the lead 23-0 over the Javelinas.
- The momentum continued for the Rams in the third, as Sullins found Keke Chism in the end zone for another ASU touchdown and increase the lead 30-0.
- Late in the third quarter, Texas A&M – Kingsville ended the Rams shut out on a 13-yard rush to trail 30-7.
- Early in the fourth, Lloyd Howard III shot the gap to score and increase the Rams lead to 37-7 over the Javelinas.
- The Rams did not let up, as halfway through the fourth quarter Sullins aired it out to hit Chism for a 74-yard touchdown pass to push the Rams to 44-7 lead over the Javelinas.
Notable Players:
- Sullins aired it out for 370 yards going 22-for-39 with four touchdowns, despite one interception.
- Chism led the offense with a career-best 194 yards, establishing a career-best 74-yard touchdown reception and two touchdowns.
- Ayo finished the night with four receptions for 86-yards with one touchdown.
- Howard finished with a season-best 32-yards on 16 carries with one touchdown. He also had 27-yards receiving on two catches with one touchdown.
- On defense, Andy Becker totaled seven tackles, all of them solo, along with one sack and one tackle for loss.
