Rams Finish Road Stint at #4 WT and ENMU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University men's basketball team continues its road stint, as the Rams head to Canyon, Texas, and Portales, New Mexico, to take on No. 4 West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, January 16 and Saturday, January 18, respectively. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Series Info:
The Rams enter the weekend with a 10-2 record and look to snap a seven game losing streak against the Buffs. West Texas A&M holds a 15-1 record overall and a 7-1 record in conference play. The Buffs lead the all-time series, 46-21. The last time these two teams met was February 14, 2019 with WT claiming an 89-69 victory over the Rams and the Blue and Gold last defeated the Buffs on January 13, 2016, 85-75.
 
The Greyhounds enter the weekend with a 5-8 record on the season and a 5-3 record in Lone Star Conference action. ENMU holds an edge over the Rams in the all-time series, 39-38. The last time these two teams met on the court was February 16, 2019, with the Greyhounds pulling out the win 83-71. ASU and ENMU split the season series, as the Rams defeated the Greyhounds in San Angelo, 88-69.
 
Scouting West Texas
The Buffs rank No. 4 in the nation and lead the LSC division pod with a 4-0 record. Qua Grant and Joel Murray lead the WT offense with 21.6 points per game and 19.4 points per game, respectively. Grant and Murray have played and started in all 16 games for the Buffs and average 29.6 minutes a game. Defensively, Grant leads with a 6.6 rebounds per game average. In conference, Grant and Murray rank third and fifth for scoring, respectively.
 
Scouting Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds rank fourth in the LSC division pod with a 2-2 record. Devin Pullum leads the ENMU offense with a 13.8 points per game average. Pullum has played in all 13 games for Eastern New Mexico, making 12 starts and averages 26.5 minutes a game. Defensively, Yosnier Cobas averages 6.2 rebounds a game and has grabbed 80 total rebounds with 58 of them defensively.
 
Last Time Out
The Blue and Gold traveled to Lubbock, Texas, and took on Lubbock Christian this past Saturday. The Rams trailed a majority of the game and fought back to claim a 73-71 victory over the Chaparrals. Jeremy Hayes led the offense, scoring 21 points and went for a perfect 100 percent (5-of-5) from beyond the arc. He shot 8-of-12 from the field and played in 36 minutes of action. Camron Reedus and Ronald Bell contributed to the offense, scoring 15 points apiece. Burone Edwards led the defense, grabbing nine rebounds. The Rams, as a team, outrebounded the Chaparrals, 31-27.
 
Notable Players
Hoping for his return this week, Collin Turner leads the Ram offense with a 16.7 points per game average. Turner has played in 11 games making 11 starts for the Rams and averages 35.8 minutes per game. Turner ranks eighth in conference for scoring and first for three-point field goal percentage with a .429.
 
Jeremy Hayes has been a dominating force for the Blue and Gold, averaging 16.4 points a game and 31.6 minutes a game. Hayes' recent performances has moved him into the No. 10 spot in conference for scoring.
 
Andres Ibarguen leads the Ram defense and is a force down on the boards. Ibarguen averages 8.7 rebounds a game and has tallied 104 total rebounds with 55 of them defensively. Ibarguen's work on the boards ranks him second in conference.

Following the weekend, Angelo State returns home for two games and host No. 6 St. Edward's and St. Mary's University on Thursday, January 23 and Saturday, January 25, respectively. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
