SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Angelo State University men's basketball team fell in a tough battle to Western New Mexico on Thursday night, 83-78.
Andres Ibarguen (25) and
Paul Williams (26) carried the Rams, scoring in double figures while Ibarguen picked up his 12
th double-double, adding 15 rebounds.
The Rams fall to 18-7 overall and 14-7 in conference action.

- The Rams started the game on a quick 7-1 scoring run with Ibarguen hitting the first shot for ASU followed by a jumper by Williams and a three by Collin Turner.
- Elijah Holifield of WNMU made a jump shot to bring the Mustangs within four points at 7-3. Williams increased the Rams lead with a three-pointer at 10-3 but WNMU went on a 7-0 tie the game at 10-10 at the 16:05 mark in the first half.
- From there, WNMU took its first lead of the game but both teams battled back and forth, tying the game two more times with neither team being able to grab a lead over the other as the Mustangs led at the half, 44-41.
- In the second half, both teams got off to a slow start as both teams fought hard, trading off baskets.
- At the 11:33 mark, Ibarguen grabbed the lead for the Rams at 52-51.
- From there, both teams battled hard to the end of the game with the Mustangs pulling out an 83-78 victory.
