Rambelles Fall to Eagles in Edmond

EDMOND, Oklahoma – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team faced a tough opponent in Oklahoma Christian, losing both games to the Eagles. The Rambelles lost the first game, 10-2, and the second game, 8-0.
The Rambelles are 13-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
 
Game One Against Oklahoma Christian:
Bottom of the 1st Inning:
  • Oklahoma Christian would gain an early 6-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, hitting a home run to left center field, scoring two of their six runs.
 
Bottom of the 3rd Inning:
  • Makayla Corbin would come into relieve Genesis Armendariz, finishing the 3rd inning for the Rambelles as the last batter would ground out to the third baseman.
 
Top of the 4th:
  • At the top of the 4th inning, Hatty Shope would smack a home run out past the center field fence, putting ASU on the board with a run, cutting the Eagles lead down to five, 6-1.
  • Corbin would allow the Rambelle defense to put three Eagle batters out with one fouling out to third base, another flying out to right field, and the last popping out to second base. One Eagle batter would hit a solo home run off of Corbin however and regain Oklahoma Christians six run lead over Angelo State, 7-1.
 
Top of the 6th Inning:
  • Avery Zeigler started the top of the 6th inning off well for ASU, hitting her first solo home run of the season over the right field fence, cutting the Eagles lead down to six, 8-2.
  • Angelo State attempted a valiant comeback to take the lead from the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, but the Eagle offense and defense proved too much in the first game for the Rambelles as OCU would take the first game, 10-2.
 
Key Players:
  • Hatty Shope had two at-bats with one run, one hit, one RBI, and one stolen base.
  • Avery Zeigler had two at-bats with one run, one hit, and one RBI.
  • Makayla Corbin threw for three innings, throwing one strikeout and allowing only three hits.
 
Game Two against Oklahoma Christian:
1st Inning:
  • Hatty Shope would start game two off for ASU, hitting a single into left field at the top of the 1st inning.
  • Oklahoma Christian would fly out to center field, scoring a run and taking a 1-0 lead over ASU.
  • Meagan Hill would throw a strikeout to finish the 1st inning, with the Eagles scoring two more runs to extend their lead to 3-0.
 
2nd Inning:
  • Paxton Scheurer would reach first base on a fielding error by the left fielder at the top of the 2nd inning.
  • Avery Zeigler would reach first on a fielders' choice from the shortstop to the second baseman.
  • The Eagles would hit a triple out into right field, scoring another run and extending their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
  • Oklahoma Christian would hit a double into left field, scoring yet another run for the Eagles and extending OCUs' lead to 5-0.
  • Victoria Vasquez would come pitch in relief of Meagan hill with bases loaded and would strikeout two batters to end the 2nd inning.
 
3rd Inning:
  • Courtney Barnhill would be walked and then would steal second shortly afterwards at the top of the third inning.
  • Vasquez threw two strikeouts to finish the 3rd inning for the Rambelles, with an Eagles batter grounding out to the third baseman.
 
4th Inning:  
5th inning:
  • Lerma would reach first on a fielding error and advance to second when Barnhill was walked at the top of the 5th.
  • The Eagles would hit another home run down the left field line and score their seventh run against the Rambelles. Oklahoma Christian would hit a double down the left field line, with a sacrifice bunt sending the runner to third base on the next play. The runner on third would score the eighth and final run for Oklahoma Christian at the bottom of the fifth, the run rule taking effect against the Rambelles as Angelo State would lose to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, 8-0.

The Rambelles travel to Lawton, Oklahoma to play the Cameron University Aggies on Sunday, March 1 for their second double header of the weekend. Game times for Sunday will be at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
