Ibarguen Ties School Record in Loss to #3 WT

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Andres Ibarguen was a massive force on the boards for the Angelo State University men's basketball team, tying a school record of 22 rebounds on Saturday afternoon in a 73-59 loss to No. 3 West Texas A&M.  

The Rams fall to 15-5 overall and 11-5 in conference play.

In Case You Missed It:
  • The Rams came out strong in the first half, controlling the first 10 minutes of the game with a 15-2 run to lead the Buffs, 15-2, at the 10:09 mark.
  • West Texas ended the run at the 8:57 mark with a layup by Qua Grant.
  • The Buffs went on a 12-1 run over the span of 3:16 to grab their first lead of the game and take it into halftime leading, 25-21.
  • In the second half, ASU and WT battled strong, changing the lead six times and tying the game four times.
  • In the final six minutes of the game, Burone Edwards tied it at 53-53 off two made free throws to keep the Rams in it.
  • From there, both teams battled until the 3:31 mark when West Texas started developing a lead to 63-55. Ibarguen made a layup to bring the Rams within six at 57-63.
  • Collin Turner hit a shot under the basket to keep the score close at 59-66 with 2:21 remaining but WT made six more shots to claim the 73-59 victory.
Key Players:
  • Ibarguen recorded his eighth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points alongside his career and season-high 22 rebounds.
  • Turner led the Rams offense with 18 points.
  • The Blue and Gold edged out the Buffs on rebounds 53-52.
  • In the second half, the Rams shot 36.36 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the free throw line.

Angelo State takes its long road trip to Edmond, Oklahoma, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, to take on conference opponents Oklahoma Christian and the University of Arkansas Fort Smith on Thursday, February 13 and Saturday, February 15, respectively.
