McNeme Scores Twice as Belles Draw versus Lions

Commerce, Texas – Coming off the back of a win over #19 West Texas A&M earlier this week, the Belles went on the road to East Texas, earning a draw on the road against Texas A&M-Commerce, who were receiving votes in the USC Soccer poll.

"I thought we played well overall, we created a lot of chances," said head coach Travis McCorkle. "Frustrated with the results, if we get two goals, we should be winning games."

The Belles forced the first five shots in the match's opening ten minutes and outshot the Lions 17-9 for the match.

The Belles opened the scoring in the 20th minute, with Libby Welker feeding a through ball to Avery McNeme, who slotted past the Commerce goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the season. The assist is also the first for the freshman defender.
The hosts would respond only two minutes later, scoring directly off a corner kick.

McNeme would double her total and give the lead back to the Belles, scoring on a beautiful shot from outside of the penalty area for her fifth goal of the season.

The hosts would equalize in the 82nd minute off a counterattack, and the 2-2 score line is where things would end.

The Lady Lions committed 16 fouls on the match and drew four yellow cards.

"We responded to their physicality pretty well," said McCorkle. "The win was there for us, we leave with a bad taste in our mouths that we should've gotten all three points."

The Belles are 9-2-2 on the season and 4-2-2 in conference play. They return to action next Wednesday on the road against Lubbock Christian.

"LCU is a good defensive team. We're gonna have to put away our chances when we get them."
