SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team split their first conference doubleheader against the Cameron Aggies, beginning conference with a 1-1 LSC record and a 9-4 overall record.
Game One:
Genesis Armendariz and the Rambelle defense showed off their skills as Armendariz struck out the first two batters, while the third batter popped up to the shortstop in the top of the first.
The Aggies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a runner scoring from first on a single into center field, but the Rambelles kept their cool and kept the Aggies from scoring for the rest of the inning, as two batters were thrown out at second and the third grounded out to the pitcher.
Armendariz struck the first batter out in the top of the third, but the Aggies managed to score another two additional runs off of a double into deep left center field to take a 3-0 lead over Angelo State, but the Rambelles finished the top of the inning on an out to the shortstop from the second baseman to give ASU another chance at bat.
Maleya Burns smacked a home run out of the park to cut the Aggies lead to one as both
Ashton Dirner and Burns scored runs for two RBI before the Aggies managed to secure three outs on the Rambelles to take the batters box once again.
Neither team would score another run until the bottom of the seventh inning, as
Avery Zeigler made it to first on a walk, with
Ashlyn Lerma coming to pinch run for ASU.
Ashlynn Box stepped into the box for Angelo State, where she proceeded to smack a home run over the fence to clinch the win for Angelo State as ASU defeated the Cameron Aggies in the first game, 4-3.

- Box had three at-bats, scoring a run and registering two hits and two RBI, one hit being the game winning home run.
- Burns had two at-bats, scoring a run and registering one hit, a home run, and two RBI.
- Armendariz threw a complete game, pitching for seven innings and throwing eight strikeouts against 26 batters faced.
Game Two:
With
Makayla Corbin to take the circle in game two against the Aggies, Corbin started the first inning off with a strikeout, while the Rambelles defense took care of the second and third outs with an Aggie hitting a grounder to the second baseman and the last out coming from a pop fly to the first baseman.
Cameron managed to smash a home run to take a 1-0 lead over the Rambelles, but that would be the only run scored in the inning as ASU made quick work of the Aggie offense to take a another swing in the batters box.
Corbin managed to strike out two more Aggies in the top of the third, and while the final out came from a fly ball out to the center fielder, Cameron managed to hit another home run to extend their lead to 2-0 over ASU.
Cameron scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning off of a sacrifice fly to the right fielder, scoring one runner and advancing another to third. The second run came off of a single into deep field, where the Aggies took a 4-0 lead over ASU. A fly ball out to the right fielder ended the top of the sixth to give the Rambelles another chance to get their bats swinging.
With Lerma on first after being walk,
Courtney Barnhill smacked a double into center field, scoring a run for the Rambelles as Lerma scored from first. Box hit a single into left field, advancing Barnhill to third.
Madison Fernandez reached first on a fielders choice as Box was tagged at second for the second out, giving Barnhill the chance to score the Rambelles second run to cut their deficit to 4-2.
The Aggies defense proved too much for the Rambelles in the bottom of the seventh as a fly ball out to the right fielder ended the game in favor of Cameron as the Aggies defeated Angelo State in game two, 4-2.

- Barnhill had four at-bats, scoring one run and registering a hit and an RBI against Cameron.
- Corbin pitched a complete game, pitching for seven innings and throwing six strikeouts against 27 batters faced.
