SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 23 Rambelles closed out the regular season with a sweep of the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals as Angelo State defeated LCU 4-2 in game one and 7-3 in game two. Angelo State moves to a 31-11 overall record with a 22-8 conference record.
Game One:
Makayla Corbin kicked things off in the top of the first in game one in the circle for the Rambelles as the first batter fouled out to the third baseman, while Corbin struck the second batter out swinging for the fences. One Chap managed to make it to first, but a second strikeout from Corbin ended the inning for LCU, bringing ASU to their first bat of the day.
Ashlyn Lerma walked, bringing
Ashlynn Box to bat for Angelo State in the bottom of the first, where she smacked a single into right field, advancing Lerma to third.
Courtney Barnhill reached first on a fielders choice as Box was thrown out at second, giving Lerma the chance to score the first run of the game to bring ASU to a 1-0 lead over Lubbock Christian.
Corbin went three up and three out in the top of the fourth as the first batter grounded out to Corbin in the circle, while the second batter lined out to the first baseman. The final out of the inning came from a pop up ball to the shortstop to bring in the Rambelles offense once again.
Haylie Mitchell showed her speed as she hit a very shallow bunt and beat the throw to first, stealing second shortly afterwards as Lerma came up to bat for ASU. Lerma reached first on an error by the LCU shortstop, advancing to second and scoring Mitchell to bring ASU to a 2-0 lead over the Chaps. Barnhill reached first on another LCU error to score Lerma from third and growing the Rambelles lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the fifth.
Angelo State scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth as Stroud crossed home plate on a single up the middle from
Jade Strother to bring ASU to a 4-0 lead over the Chaps.
Lubbock Christian managed to score two runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Rambelles lead to 4-2, but the Rambelles defense managed to stop their offensive push and take game one over LCU, 4-2.

Game Two:
Genesis Armedariz kicked things off in the circle for ASU in game two in the top of the first, registering another strikeout as she struck the first batter out swinging. LCU managed to hit a single and put a runner on base, but the Rambelle defense quickly squashed any offensive charge from the Chaps with a batter flying out to the right fielder and the final out coming from a grounder hit to the pitcher.
Lerma smacked a single out to right field line, advancing to third as Box smacked a single down the right field line to kick things off in the bottom of the first. Box was thrown out at second on an attempt to steal, giving Lerma the chance to score again for the Rambelles, taking a 1-0 lead over LCU. Barnhill reached first on an error by the third baseman, stealing second shortly afterwards.
Keilei Garcia smacked a single into deep center field to register an RBI as Barnhill crossed home plate to bring ASU to a 2-0 lead over Lubbock Christian.
Armendariz struck the first batter out looking to begin the second inning for ASU, as the Rambelles defense made quick work of the Chaps offense, as one batter grounded out to the second baseman for the second out and the final out came from a grounder to the third baseman.
Hatty Shope smacked a single through a gap in the Chaps defense on the right side, advancing to second on a bunt single from Mitchell in the bottom of the second. Box smacked a single into deep center field to advance Mitchell to third and score Shope to bring ASU to a 3-0 lead over LCU.
Armendariz went three up and three out in the top of the third as Angelo States defense made quick work of the Chap offensive movement once again. The first Chap batter grounded out to the third baseman, while the second batter grounded out to the shortstop. The third out came from a pop up fly ball to the second baseman to bring the ASU offense back into the batters box.
Lubbock Christian cut the Rambelles lead down to one run after scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning off of two walks, 3-2, but Armendariz managed to calm her nerves and show her skills as a pitcher, striking one batter out swinging and striking another batter out looking. ASU managed to end the inning before the Chaps scored another run, throwing the runner at second out at third to give ASU another chance at bat and to maintain their lead.
Barnhill kicked things off in the bottom of the fifth as she smacked a double into deep left field, scoring another run for the Rambelles as
Madison Fernandez smacked a single up the middle of the field to bring ASU to a 4-2 lead over Lubbock Christian. Garcia hit a double out to deep center field, advancing Fernandez to third and into scoring position. Stroud extended the Rambelles lead even further with a single up the middle field to register two RBI as Fernandez and Garcia both crossed home plate to bring ASU to a four run lead over the Chaps, 6-2.
Mitchell walked in the bottom of the sixth, stealing second shortly afterwards as Lerma came up to bat. Lerma popped up to the catcher to bring Box up to the batters box for the Rambelles, where she smacked a single out to left field, advancing to second on the throw to catch Mitchell at home, but Mitchell proved too fast for the Chaps defense as she crossed home plate to bring ASU to a 7-2 lead over LCU in the sixth inning.
Corbin came in to pitch relief for Armendariz in the top of the seventh as the first Chap batter hit a fly ball out to the center fielder for the first out. The Chaps managed to score a run off of a Rambelle error to cut the Rambelles lead to four, 7-3, but Corbin registered a strikeout as the batter struck out swinging for the second out. A pop up fly to the shortstop ended game two in favor of Angelo State as the Rambelles took game two over LCU, 7-3.
