Rambelles Back in the Win Column with 2-0 Victory Over LCU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – After losing to West Texas A&M in their most recent match a week ago, the Angelo State women's soccer team took care of Lubbock Christian 2-0 Wednesday evening in San Angelo.

The Rambelles improve to 11-2-1 overall and 6-2 in Lone Star Conference play following the victory. The Lady Chaps lose their second consecutive contest, falling to 6-2-5 and 3-2-2 in LSC action.

90 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • Madison Stokes would register the first shot of the contest in the fourth minute, forcing an early save from Abby Kone, the Lady Chaps keeper.
  • Captains Mia Czarnecki and Cassidy Hill would have shots blocked in the 25th and 26th minutes respectively.
  • Grace Jordan found the breakthrough in the 35th minute courtesy of a beautiful cross from Katie Detmer from the right flank, which Katelin Heise directed to Jordan for the finish.
  • LCU would test Kira Miller in the 36th minute, but the grad student thwarted the chance, her only save in the first frame.
  • A shot off the foot of LCU's Julie Shahi would find its way to Miller for her first of four saves in the second half in the 47th minute.
  • Heise would add her name to the story of the game for the second time in the 51st minute after picking up a yellow card.
  • The teams would trade shots back and forth until Heise would double the Belles lead in the 73rd minute off a Czarnecki corner.
  • Miller would make one final save in the 87th minute, cutting out any chance for a late rally by the Lady Chaps.

GAME NOTES

  • Czarnecki also picked up her first assist of 2022, she now has three in her career.
  • The Rambelles out shot the Lady Chaps 11 to seven in the contest, limiting LCU to five shots on target.
  • The Belles took six corner kicks, tied for the most in a single match all season.
  • Miller earned clean sheet number nine on the season, the 37th of her career, as she inches closer to the LSC all-time record of 40.
  • Miller also made five saves on the evening and is now only seven saves away from breaking the ASU record.

COACHES TAKE
"I thought we did a good job of being less predictable tonight," said Rambelles Head Coach Travis McCorkle. "Our defense has been pretty solid all year, and today our midfield defending really stepped up, making things easier for us. Nice for Grace to get back on the scoreboard and nice to see Detmer making the most of her opportunities tonight. Neleh Coleman also came in and presented some new problems they had to solve. I think the next step for us is to get that first one and still create more chances and keep pushing, but this match was a good way to move forward."

NEXT UP
The Rambelles hit the road for another tough LSC contest, heading east to face UT Tyler at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex in Tyler, with kickoff slated for 12 p.m.
