No. 2 Rams Down Bemidji State 33-7 in the Second Round of the NCAA Championship

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 2-ranked Angelo State football team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship after defeating fourth-seeded Bemidji State 33-7 at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

With the win, the Rams improve to 12-0 on the season and will make their second-straight quarterfinal appearance.

ASU finished with 486 yards of total offense while holding the Beavers to only 188 yards of offense.

Bemidji State got on the board first after collecting a muffed punt inside the 10-yard line of the Rams before scoring on a four-yard touchdown pass.

In the second quarter, the Rams found their first score of the game as Zach Bronkhorst tossed a screen pass to Nate Omayebu III, who ran it 19 yards for a touchdown to tie the game.

Towards the end of the first half, the Rams added another score after driving the ball 92 yards, capping off the drive with another touchdown pass as Bronkhorst connected with Omayebu again.

ASU took a 13-7 advantage into halftime while allowing only 100 yards of total offense by the Beavers in the first two quarters, including six yards on the ground.

After nearly a quarter and a half without a score, the Rams added to their lead in the fourth quarter as Asa Fuller converted a 47-yard field goal try to make it 16-7 in favor of the Rams.

Bronkhorst finished with a season-high 337 passing yards on the day while throwing for two touchdowns and 21 completions. Noah Massey was the leading receiver with 96 yards and seven receptions.

In the next drive, Andrew Pitts intercepted the Beavers deep in ASU territory to keep possession for the Rams, tallying his seventh interception this season.

After a 50-yard catch and run by Brayden Wilcox, Wilcox took a handoff to the corner of the endzone on a seven-yard run to extend the lead to 23-7.

Omayebu tallied 94 yards on the ground to lead the Rams in rushing yards, followed by 68 yards from Kason Philips.

The Rams' defense came up again as K'hari Watson picked off BSU on a tipped pass, setting up another field goal from Fuller, this time from 26 yards outs. The secondary wasn't done, as Kason McCullough-Cooper returned an interception 28-yards for a touchdown before Watson tallied his second interception in the game.

Daron Allman was the leading tackler for the Rams with six on the day, including two tackles for loss, followed by Rascoe with five.

The Rams will host second-seeded Colorado School of Mines next Saturday, Dec. 3, in a rematch from last year's Super Region 4 final.
