Rams Return to Action with Road Trip to New Mexico

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team returns to action following the Christmas break this weekend with a pair of road games in New Mexico as they take on Western New Mexico on Friday night before ringing in the New Year with Eastern New Mexico on Sunday afternoon.

The Rams are 8-2 on the season, and 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play; their most recent games took place on December 17th and 18th at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, where the Rams lost to Le Moyne before rebounding to beat Montana State-Billings to split their games in Sin City.

The Rams are 4-2 this season away from the Junell Center and are 1-1 in games played in the Land of Enchantment this season; they defeated New Mexico Highlands and lost to Fort Lewis in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to open the season back in November.

Kevon Godwin and Reggie Quezada pace the Rams' offense, averaging 74.4 points per game on 43.9 percent shooting from the field. Godwin scores 16.1 points per game, seventh in the LSC, while Quezada averages 13.2 points per game and leads the team with 2.8 assists per game.

Quezada is coming off a Las Vegas trip in which he averaged 15.5 points, eight rebounds, and four assists over two games to be named to the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic All-Tournament Team.

Following this road trip, the Rams start a four-game home stand next weekend as they host West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Western New Mexico is 7-3 on the season and 1-3 in LSC play; they are 4-1 on their home court this season. Before the Christmas break, the Mustangs split games with DBU and No. 19 UT Tyler, losing to DBU before upsetting the ranked Patriots 60-55.

Florida A&M transfer Keith Littles leads the Mustangs' offense with 12 points per game on 48.8 percent shooting from the field. The guard has started all ten games this season and scored double digits in eight games, including doing so in the past five contests.

The Rams are 10-4 all-time against the Mustangs; they are winless in their last two games on Drag's Court, having previously won in Silver City on January 19th, 2019.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Eastern New Mexico, like the Mustangs, is 7-3 this season with a 2-2 conference record; six of their seven wins have come inside Greyhound Arena, and they carry a seven-game home winning streak dating back to the end of last season.

Before the Christmas break, the Greyhounds collected a pair of wins over No. 19 UT Tyler and DBU, including a massive 68-45 rout of UT Tyler.

Current LSC Defensive Player of the Week Errol White leads the conference with five double-doubles this season. White averages 12.3 points and 9.4 rebounds this season; as a team, the Greyhounds out-rebound opponents by 5.9 rebounds per contest.

The Rams are 41-39 all-time versus the Greyhounds. Last season, the Rams defeated the Greyhounds in San Angelo 93-62. The Rams have won only one of their previous four games in Portales dating back to 2017.
