Silver City, N. M. – Despite being in Silver City, Angelo State was golden in the teams' return to action following the Christmas break. Three players –
Reggie Quezada,
Barlow Alleruzzo IV, and
Fredelin De La Cruz – scored in double figures in the Rams' as they claimed a 77-63 win over Western New Mexico.
The last ten minutes of the first half proved to be instrumental in the outcome, as the Rams took a 13-12 lead with 9:19 left in the half and went on a 22-11 run to close out the half with a 35-23 advantage.
For the game, the Rams shot 45.5 percent from the field and a season-best 95.7 percent from the free-throw line (22-for-23).
For the fourth time this season, Quezada scored 16 points. The New Yorker went 5-for-12 from the field and was one of three Rams to lead the team with eight rebounds.
The Rams dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Mustangs 40-28.
Alleruzzo scored in double digits for the first time in an ASU uniform, as number 14 scored 14 points on the evening. The Chicago native converted five of his seven field goal attempts and made three of his four three-point attempts.
De La Cruz added 12 points and grabbed eight boards; teammate
Steve Webb scored eight points, grabbed eight rebounds, and nabbed a game-high three steals.
The Rams improve to 9-2 overall on the season and 5-0 in conference play; they are one of three teams to be undefeated in conference play, along with St. Edward's and West Texas A&M.
The Rams open the New Year in Portales with a Sunday afternoon matchup against Eastern New Mexico. The Greyhounds are coming off an 84-75 victory over UT Permian Basin tonight.
