SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball picked up another win on Thursday night, defeating Texas A&M – Kingsville 73-69 in Lone Star Conference action at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
With the victory, the Rams improve to 16-7 overall on the season and 6-5 in conference play while the Javelinas move to 11-8, 2-6 LSC.
Paul Williams led the Rams with 19 points while going 7-of-8 from the free throw line while
Dante Moses added 17 points with 10 made free throws.
Both teams started the game exchanging baskets with neither team gaining a lead more than five points. ASU scored six straights points beginning with a layup by
Devaughn Thomas to give the Rams an 13-8 lead at the 13:20 mark.
The Javelinas closed out the half with 11 straight points to take a 39-29 lead into the halftime break.
Angelo State outshot the Javelinas 39 percent to 35 percent while going 33-of-36 from the free throw line. ASU edged out TAMUK under the basket with 40 rebounds to 39.
The Rams quickly cut the lead down in the second half, scoring 11 straight points before taking the lead at 52-50 off a shot from Moses midway through the period.
ASU used another 11-point run to go up 63-53, holding onto the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Kelyn Pennie added 10 point while
Miles Macadory finished with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Rams will continue play at home this weekend as they take on Texas A&M International on Saturday, Feb. 12 with tip-off set for 4 p.m.
