Conroe, Texas – The Angelo State Softball team rebounded from a loss to close their opening day in emphatic fashion, defeating Southeastern Oklahoma 8-5 in their first game before shutting out #16 Southern Arkansas 6-0 in game two.
The Rambelle offense recorded 18 hits over the two games, with six of those hits being homeruns.
In game one against the Savage Storm, the Rambelles got on the board in the first inning, with
Paxton Scheurer leaving the yard for her first homerun of the season, driving in
Lindsey Evans, who preceded the third baseman with an infield single.
The Rambelles would tack on another run in the frame when
Madison Fernandez would score on a
Bailey Martinez single.
Haylie Mitchell and
Ashlyn Lerma would each single in the second inning; both would end up touching home plate, with Mitchell scoring on a wild pitch and Lerma scoring on a Scheurer infield single.
The Savage Storm would pull a run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-1 after two innings.
Leadoff hitter Lerma would tack on a run in the fourth inning, leading off the frame with a full count before hitting an inside-the-park homerun, the first collegiate homerun for the Rambelles' second baseman.
With the Savage Storm adding a run in the fifth inning, Mitchell, like Lerma, would lead off the sixth inning with an inside-the-park homerun of her own, with that also being the first homerun for the freshman in her brief collegiate career.
Fernandez would lead off the seventh and final inning with a shot to center field for her first homerun of the season; the Savage Storm would mount a late comeback, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh; however,
Genesis Armendariz would come in for the final out to record her first save of the season.
Torrey Hogan improves to 2-0 as she picks up the win. The sophomore allowed seven hits and two runs in 4.2 innings of work.
Sierra Schottler,
Ashton McMillan and Armendariz would close out in relief for the Rambelles to pick up the win.
The top of the Rambelles' lineup powered the offense in game two against the Muleriders, with Lerma, Evans and Scheurer each recording two hits; the trio were responsible for all six of the Rambelles' hits against the natio''s 16
th-ranked team.
Evans would single in the first inning to set up Scheurer, who homered for the second time in as many games to give the Rambelles an early 2-0 lead.
Lerma would reach on an error before Evans would single again, with Scheurer following with her third home run of the day. The third baseman went 4-7 on the day with three homeruns and eight RBIs.

Armendariz, who closed out the first game, started game two and promptly shut down the high-powered Muleriders' offense.
The New Mexican rebounded from her start yesterday, only allowing two hits and four walks while striking out 12 Muleriders in a complete-game shutout for her first win of the season.
The Rambelles are now 3-1 on the season; they close out their weekend tomorrow morning, taking on Rogers State in a rematch from Saturday before facing hosts Arkansas Tech.
