#18 Rambelles Pick Up Pair of Wins over Eastern New Mexico

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team opened their home conference schedule with a pair of wins over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday in a pair of one-run contests.

In game one, the Rambelle offense struggled against the league's strikeout leader in Brook Leger. Leger would strikeout 10 Rambelles, including eight outs in a row via the strikeout from the first out in the first inning through the end of the third inning.

The Greyhounds would score first with a pair of singles in the sixth inning before the Rambelles responded in the bottom half of the inning with a Paxton Scheurer double scoring Ashlyn Lerma.

The Rambelles would enter the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 1-all; a single by Madison Fernandez and walks by Keilei Garcia and Bailey Martinez would load the bases before the Rambelles' lone senior, Mykayla Stroud, would single through the left side to claim the 2-1 win for the hosts.

Garcia went 2-2 from the plate in game one, the only Rambelle with more than one hit in the first game; Genesis Armendariz picked up her ninth win of the season, throwing a complete game while allowing five hits and one run while striking out five.

The Rambelles' offense would come alive earlier in game two, with Ashlyn Lerma starting the first inning off with a walk before promptly stealing second and third; Lerma would score on a Lindsey Evans infield single for the game's first run.

A pair of walks and an error would lead to the Greyhounds scoring on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning to even the score.

The Rambelles would score three times in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on three consecutive free passes with the bases loaded to take a 4-1 lead.

A Rambelle error in the top of the fifth preceded an RBI triple and an RBI single to make it 4-3.

The Rambelles would push four across in their final trip to the plate to put the game out of reach.

With all the scoring happening with two outs, Scheurer would single in Stroud from third base for the first run before Ashlynn Box doubled to score a pair of runs.

Garcia would single up the middle to drive in the final run.

The Greyhounds would force three walks and a single to score a run before Leger would double to the right-center gap to score all three runners on base; however, the Rambelles would throw Leger out at third base to end the game and strand the game's tying run at third base.

After the walk-off in game one, Stroud would go 3-3 from the plate in game two.

Torrey Hogan picked up her seventh win of the season, allowing five hits and only one earned run while striking out three. Ashton McMillan would step into the circle in relief before being relieved by Hogan, who came back into the game to record the game's final out.

The Rambelles are now 18-4 overall on the season and 3-3 in conference play. They return to action on Monday afternoon to host #6 West Texas A&M, who are coming off a split today against #15 Lubbock Christian.
