Rams, Buffs Battle in the LSC Quarterfinals

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State men's basketball team is in Frisco, Texas at the Comerica Center, the final location where the winner of the Lone Star Conference Tournament will be decided, the Rams matchup with West Texas A&M in the quarterfinals Thursday, Mar. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
 
Tickets to the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship are available as single-session passes. Prices are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Each single-session ticket includes two tournament games and is redeemable for the specified session only. Tickets can be purchased at the Comerica Center Box Office or online through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com) now through the end of the tournament. Tickets purchased on Ticketmaster are subject to additional fees and taxes. No additional fees will be applied to tickets purchased at the Comerica Center Box Office.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Rams won an overtime contest 78-77 over a gritty UT Permian Basin squad at the Junell Center. Dante Moses led the way for the Rams, putting up a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Buffs and Rams met in Canyon early in the LSC schedule. The Rams snapped a 12 game losing streak to the Buffs behind a stellar offensive evening. Tyrell Carroll led the Rams with 17 points, Paul Williams added 16 of his own as the Rams shot 37.9 percent from three that evening.
 
SCOUTING WEST TEXAS A&M:
WT enters the conference tournament 25-6 on the year and 11-5 in Lone Star Conference play which earned them the second seed. West Texas is currently ranked eighteenth in DII, and the Buffs have won their last five games. Four of those wins were against teams that missed the conference tournament (Eastern NM, Western NM, Texas A&M International, Cameron). The Buffs last loss came at the hands of the third ranked LCU Chaps on Feb. 10th.
 
On offense, the Buffs are top of the conference, scoring 82.5 points per game. Defensively, they rank eighth, allowing 68.1 points per contest, giving them the second best margin in the LSC at +14.4. WT shoots 44.3 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from deep, both ranking 11th in the Lone Star. The Buffs dominate the glass, leading the LSC in three rebounding categories, averaging 39.5 boards per game, 13.1 on the offensive glass, and hosting a +5.0 rebounding margin.
 
Zach Toussaint and Larry Wise are the leading scorers for the Buffs, both averaging 15.5 points per game. Kavon Booker leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6 boards a contest. Toussaint is a threat from beyond the arc, ranking fourth in three point percent, 41.7, and threes made per game, 2.8.
