Scott Earns 900th Career Win; #11 Rambelles Split with #7 Texas A&M-Kingsville

Kingsville, Texas – The Angelo State softball team ended their weekend on a high note, winning the second game of their doubleheader against seventh-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville 4-1, bouncing back from an 11-5 defeat to the Javelinas in game one.

The win also sees Rambelles Head Coach Travis Scott earn his 900th career win as a head coach, becoming the tenth active coach in Division II to do so.

With two outs in the first inning of game one, walks by Lindsey Evans and Ashlynn Box sparked a two-out rally that saw Evans score on a Madison Fernandez RBI single. Box would score later in the inning on a double steal to double the Rambelles' lead.

Maleya Burns homered in the second inning to make the scoreline 3-0.

The hosts would score twice in the third inning before scoring seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-3 lead.

Evans would match Burns with a solo homer of her own in the fifth inning, and Paxton Scheurer would drive in a run through a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to make it 9-5.

The Javelinas would cap the scoring in the sixth inning through a single and a wild pitch.

Genesis Armendariz got the start in the circle, allowing six hits and six runs (five earned) in 3.2 innings.

Sierra Schottler would pitch the final 2.1 innings in relief, allowing five hits and five runs (four earned).

The Rambelles got off the mark first in the third inning of game two, with back-to-back singles by Burns and Ashlyn Lerma setting up Scheurer, who cleared the bases with her 22nd home run this season. The third baseman is up to 22 home runs this season and 70 RBIs, which are second and third in a single season in the program's history.

The Rambelles would score again in the top of the seventh through a double steal.

That was plenty of run support for starter Torrey Hogan, who only allowed two hits through the first six innings and ended the day with four hits and one run in a complete-game win.

The Rambelles are now at 33-8 overall on the season and 17-7 in conference play. After the Easter break, they are back in action, hosting St. Edward's and St. Mary's on April 22nd and 24th.
