#10 Rambelles Close Home Schedule with Sweep of St. Mary’s

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team closed their home schedule with a pair of wins over St. Mary's on Saturday, winning game one 4-1 and winning game two with their second walk-off in as many days, 3-2.

The Rattlers started scoring in the fifth inning, scoring on an RBI single.

Senior Mykayla Stroud led off the bottom of the inning by being hit by a pitch, working her way around the bases and scoring on Ashlyn Lerma's RBI single.

Two runners on base were promptly sent home by Lindsey Evans, who delivered her tenth home run to give the Rambelles a 4-1 lead, on they would hold for the remainder of the game.

Rambelles starter Genesis Armendariz delivered a gem inside the circle, only allowing two hits and a run to pick up her 18th win.

Like game one, the Rattlers stroke first in game two, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning, and for the first time all weekend, the Rambelles failed to immediately respond with runs of their own.

After conceding a lead-off bunt single to Lerma, Rattlers starter Catalina Cavazos did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, stifling the Rambelle lineup.

Keilei Garcia led off the fifth inning with a home run, her second home run in as many games to halve the deficit. Lerma followed with another RBI single later in the inning to tie the game.

The game was deadlocked at 2-all heading into the seventh inning, when the bottom of the Rambelles' lineup stepped up. A one-out walk by Haylie Mitchell and a Maleya Burns single put two runners on.

With the count full, the next batter, Lerma, hit a groundball back to Rattlers reliever Jaydn Abrego, whose throw pulled the Rattler shortstop off the bag, loading the bases.

Now on third base, Mitchell bolted for the plate while the Rattlers argued the call and beat the ensuing throw for the 3-2 walk-off win.

Torrey Hogan settled down from a shaky first inning to pick up her 15th win, allowing eight hits and two runs in the complete-game effort.

The Rambelles are 37-8 overall and 21-7 in conference play. They close the regular season next weekend against Lubbock Christian on the road.
