Ram Basketball Adds 3x GLVC Defensive Player of the Year Steve Webb to Incoming Class

SAN ANGELO – Ram Basketball Head Coach Vinay Patel continues to make additions to the roster ahead of his first season at the program's helm, announcing the signing of graduate transfer Steve Webb to the ranks.

Webb, who comes to San Angelo from Division II University of St. Louis – Missouri (UMSL), is the current three-time Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Defensive Player of the Year, winning the award in back-to-back-to-back seasons for the Tritons. Webb was also named to the conference's all-defensive team in all four seasons at UMSL.

"Steve has proven to be one of the best defensive players in the country!  I'm not sure if I have ever heard of a player winning Defensive Player of the Year in his conference for three consecutive years before," said Patel. "He immediately brings experience, leadership, and toughness to our program. Not only do we believe he will instantly help us on the defensive end of the floor, but his ability to get to the basket and pass the ball will make him a very effective offensive player."

Webb helped guide the Tritons to the GLVC Tournament Championship for the first time in school history as UMSL went 26-7 last season and advanced to the Midwest Regional Championship game.

Webb wrote his name into the Triton record books, finishing second in program history with 162 steals and third all-time with 360 assists.

"Steve is a team-first guy and an absolute winner. He already has his degree in Business and will pursue his MBA at Angelo State.  There is no question that he is a big-time addition to our program," said Patel. "Our staff (Coach Rutledge and Coach Moore) did an incredible job targeting him in the recruiting process and helping him find a home for his last season at ASU."

"Our fans will love his blue-collar mentality, and we are very excited to see him in the blue and gold for the upcoming season!"
