No. 5 Rams Open LSC Action Against UTPB on the Road

After winning both nonconference games to start the season, the fifth-ranked Rams will enter Lone Star Conference play with a 2-0 record as they take on UT Permian Basin on the road this Saturday.
 
RAMS COMPLETE COMEBACK WIN IN OVERTIME TO DOWN NO. 12 MINES:
Playing on the road in a rematch of last year's quarterfinals, a late touchdown run by Nate Omayebu III tied the game against Colorado School of Mines 27-27, forcing overtime. After ASU's defense forced a long field goal try that was wide left by the Orediggers, the Rams clinched the victory with a 36-yard field goal by Asa Fuller. ASU's offense was led by the run game, rushing for 264 yards while three different backs collected a touchdown in the game.

Last Meeting: Oct. 16, 2021 – ASU, 34-14
This will be the sixth meeting between these two teams since UTPB added football during the 2015 season. ASU has won all five previous meetings to this point, including a 34-14 win last year at home.
 
SCOUTING THE FALCONS:
  • The Falcons are coming off their first win of the season, a 34-31 double overtime victory against Western Colorado who was receiving votes in the AFCA Top 25 at the time.
  • UTPB dropped the first game of the season to Southwest Baptist, losing 41-17 at home.
  • The Falcons who selected to finish fifth overall in the conference according to the LSC Preseason Poll.
  • As a team, the Falcons are averaging 221 yards of offense in their first two contests with 174.5 yards coming through the air and only 46.5 yards on the ground.
  • Quarterback Dylan Graham has 349 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions while running back Kory Harris leads the team with 79 yards rushing and a score.
  • Defensively, UTPB has allowed an average of 344 yards of offense while D'Ondre Robinson leads the team with 19 total tackles on the season.
 
CLIMBING THE POLL:
For the second week in a row, the Rams have moved up a spot in the AFCA Top 25 poll, claiming the fifth overall spot after their win over Mines.
 
LSC RECOGNITION:
After finishing a perfect 3-for3 in both fields and PATs, Asa Fuller was named the Lone Star Special Teams Player of the Week. He is the second Ram to earn a weekly honor this season.
 
RUNNING BACK CAROUSEL:
The Rams have had success throughout the running back position with three backs having at least one touchdown through the first two games. Omayebu, Alfred Grear, and Kason Philips are each average 4.8 or more yards per carry.
