No. 21 Rams Look to Continue Winning Ways at Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M

SAN ANGELO – Riding a nine-game winning streak, the Angelo State men's basketball team kicks off a four-game road trip this weekend when they take the trip to Lubbock to face Lubbock Christian on Thursday before heading to the Panhandle to face West Texas A&M in Canyon on Saturday.

The Rams are 18-3 on the year and 14-1 in conference play; they are on top of the Lone Star Conference West Division and the LSC Standings and are riding a nine-game winning streak, tied for the fifth-longest in program history.

The Rams are averaging 76.1 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field; they lead the conference in rebounding margin, out-rebounding opponents by five rebounds per game.

Defensively, Angelo State holds opponents to 42.1 percent shooting from the field and forces opponents into 15.2 turnovers per game; the Rams lead the LSC with 8.6 steals per game.

Kevon Godwin, the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Week, is third in the LSC with 17.6 points scored per game; he also leads the conference in three-pointers made per game (2.71) and three-point percentage (41.9 percent). Godwin is one of four players in the conference to have multiple 30-point performances in conference play this season.

Seniors Fredelin De La Cruz and Steve Webb anchor the Rams on the boards and the defensive end, respectively. De La Cruz is sixth in the conference with 6.8 rebounds per game, while Webb is second in the LSC with 1.86 steals per game.

Following this weekend, the Rams continue their road trip next weekend to face Cameron and Midwestern State.
 
SCOUTING THE CHAPS
Lubbock Christian is 14-6 on the season and 10-4 in conference play; they are riding a four-game winning streak, all of which has come on the road. This season, the Chaps are 5-2 on their home court, having suffered losses to Midwestern State and Western New Mexico.

The Chaps score 73.2 points per game and shoot a conference-best 47 percent from the field; they are led in scoring by Rowan Mackenzie, who is averaging 19.8 points, tops in the LSC this season.

On January 7th, the Rams never trailed as they defeated Lubbock Christian 77-65 inside Stephens Arena at the Junell Center. Mackenzie led all players with 30 points, while Godwin led the Rams with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting; that night also saw Quezada score 16 points, and Devaughn Thomas added 15 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.
 
SCOUTING THE BUFFS
West Texas A&M is 14-6 on the season and 12-2 in conference play; they are only one game back of the Rams in the West Division. The Buffs dropped their last game in Wichita Falls to Midwestern State 92-86, their first loss since losing to Angelo State on January 5th.

The Buffs have won their last 12 games on their home court dating back to last season. The Buffs lead the conference in free throw attempts, shooting 26.4 free throws per game, with 20.1 makes from the charity stripe per game.

The Buffs also possess the league's highest-scoring offense, averaging 84.6 points per game; they shoot 36.9 percent from deep and only turn the ball over 9.8 times per game.

On January 5th, the Rams pulled out an 82-77 victory over the Buffs. The Buffs' Zach Toussaint scored 20 points, while Godwin and Willie Guy scored 19 points each for the Rams. In that contest, Angelo State shot 58 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.
