Daytona Beach, Fla. – Four members of the Angelo State men's basketball team –
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson,
Kevon Godwin,
Trey Farrer, and
Shemar Smith – scored in double figures, and the Rams turned in a dominant first half as they claimed a 70-55 win over Rollins on Sunday afternoon at the Daytona Beach Shootout.
The Rams outscored the Tars 40-19 in the first 20 minutes, shooting 46.9 percent from the field.
Embery-Simpson led the Rams in scoring with 19 points, with five of his six makes from three coming from beyond the three-point line; defensively, the graduate student guard blocked a pair of shots.
Godwin stuffed the stat sheet for the Rams with 14 points, six assists, and seven steals. Four of his five field goals were from three, and his seven steals are the most for a Rams player in a single game this season.
For the game, the Rams forced the Tars into 21 turnovers and held the Tars to 2-for-9 shooting from three-point range.
Farrer had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Smith had ten points and seven rebounds in only 17 minutes of action.
Willie Guy tied Godwin for the game-high in assists with six; the Rams assisted 22 of their 26 made field goals.
The Rams improve to 9-1 overall, running their winning streak to eight games. They close 2023 out with a matchup tomorrow afternoon versus No. 6 West Liberty, who are coming off a 112-101 loss to RV Dominican this afternoon in Florida.
