Rambelles Earn Fifth Consecutive Clean Sheet in 2-0 Victory

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play Wednesday afternoon after beating St. Edward's 2-0 at the newly renovated LeGrand Soccer Complex.

The Rambelles improve to 4-1-2 overall and 2-0 in conference action with the victory, while the Hilltoppers fall to 2-4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Rambelles offense came ready to play in this one with Madison Maxey getting the first shot of the contest that would miss just high of the goal.

In the 6th minute the forward line of the Rambelles would press the defense of the Hilltoppers resulting in goal by Shaelyn Ward who was assisted by Maxey.

Just three minutes later in the 9th minute, Sanai Stewart would score one of the rarest goals in soccer scoring off a corner kick as the kicktaker. This would be Stewart's first goal this year.

The offense would continue to pressure the Hilltoppers as they would record five more shots in the half.

At halftime, the Rambelles would have eight shots with five on goal compared to two shots of the Hilltoppers with one being on target.

The Rambelles offense would continue its pressure by getting 12 shots off in the second half with five of them being on target compared to the one shot of the Hilltoppers.

The Rambelles defense would continue their run of form not conceding a goal in the last five contests and have not allowed a goal at home to this point in the season at home.

Lockwood would not see much action in this contest only recording one save, but with the victory, Lockwood would extend her conference lead in shutouts with six in the last seven contests and her 13th as a Rambelle after recording one save in the contest.

Rambelles will return to action on Saturday as they hit the road to face Midwestern State with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

From Travis McCorkle: Q: A big win 2-0 win over the St. Edward's Hilltoppers to keep you guys going in conference play give me your immediate thoughts after the victory?  "A great start we caused a lot of issues right there in the beginning getting our two goals that ended up making a difference in the game, upset that we didn't get something in the second, especially at the end when we had the ball bouncing around in front of goal. Overall im happy about the contest. I thought the girls played well. It is always challenging when you take a 2-0 lead early to keep your focus and stay sharp with what your doing. Hopefully, that is something that we can take away from this game and continue to use, and also the positivity with some forwards and attackers scoring goals and not Tina so that is good. Q: Coach you are back on the road against Midwestern State on Saturday what does this team have to do to keep the momentum rolling? " They're going to have to be sharp the whole 90 minutes Midwestern is one of the best teams in the conference right now, so we are going to their place to play we are going to need to be ready to play for that contest it's going to be different than the last two games.
