No. 23 Rambelles Split Doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team split their doubleheader on Saturday at Mayer Field against Oklahoma Christian, dropping game one 6-1 before taking game two 4-1.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the first inning of game one, capitalizing on a Rambelles error.

A pair of singles in the fifth inning scored three innings for the Eagles before they scored two more runs in the sixth inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Laylonna Applin singled in to score Ashton Dirner for the Rambelles' lone run of the contest.

Applin was responsible for two of the five hits for the Rambelles in game one.

Torrey Hogan lasted five innings in the circle, allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned). Amelia Hatthorn pitched the final two innings in relief, allowing three hits and two runs.

The Rambelles struck first in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. Keilei Garcia walked, and singles by Erin Plunkett and Layni Tanner loaded the bases for Zoey De Baca, who singled through the left side to score a pair of runs.

The next batter, Averie Gunther, fouled out to left field for a sacrifice fly that scored Tanner and gave the hosts a three-run advantage.

A bases-loaded walk for the Eagles in the top of the next inning put the visitors on the scoreboard; however, the Rambelles immediately responded with an Ashton Dirner leadoff triple, who eventually scored on a Tatiana Trotter sacrifice fly.

Cheyenne Floyd threw her third complete game of the season, striking out five batters and allowing one run as she picked up her tenth win of the season.

The Rambelles are 17-7 on the season and 8-6 in LSC play; they go for the series win against the Eagles tomorrow at 1 p.m.
