No. 25 Rambelles Split Doubleheader in Portales

Portales, N.M. – The Angelo State softball team split their doubleheader today aagainst Eastern New Mexico, dropping game one 3-1 before winning game two 10-2 in a six-inning run-rule victory on Saturday at the Greyhound Softball Field.

The Rambelles opened the scoring in game one, doing so in the third inning. Tatiana Trotter drew a walk and Keilei Garcia singled to set up Averie Gunther, who singled to left field to drive in Trotter.

The Greyhounds tied the game in the fourth inning on a solo home run before taking the lead the next inning, scoring two runs.

Second baseman Layni Tanner was the only hitter for either team to record more than one hit in the first game.

Cheyenne Floyd took her third loss of the season, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out nine Greyhounds. Matie Wolkow threw a perfect 1.1 innings in relief of Floyd.

Trotter's two-out triple in first inning of game two got the Rambelles on the scoreboard first; however, the Greyhounds would hit a solo home run in response to tie the game.

Abby Brand drove in two runs in the second inning on a ground ball with the bases loaded, with Brand's hustle down the line beating out a double play, and Erin Plunkett's baserunning saw her score from second on the play.

The Greyhounds would scratch across another run in the third inning to make it 3-2.

Back-to-back RBI doubles by Trotter and Garcia in the fifth inning saw the Rambelles extend their lead to 5-2.

The Rambelles broke the game open in the sixth inning, pushing five runs across.

Zoey De Baca led the inning off by reaching on an error, Brand was hit by a pitch and Tanner bunt singled to load the bases for Carter Smith, who singled to left field to drive in two runs.

Laylonna Applin singled in the next run, and Garcia capped the scoring for the inning with a two-runs single.

Torrey Hogan picked up her third win of the season, throw 2.1 innings in relief, only allowing one hit and striking out three.

The Rambelles are 19-8 on the season and 10-7 in LSC play; the two teams go for the series win tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. central time.
