Rams Fall to Buffs in Canyon to Close 2025 Regular Season

CANYON, Texas — The Angelo State football program saw its 2025 regular season come to a close on Saturday evening with a 45-44 loss to West Texas A&M at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.

The Rams finished 6-5 overall — their worst record since 2018 — and 4-5 in Lone Star Conference play, their poorest league mark since 2016.

Angelo State had a chance to score first, but a 47-yard field goal attempt by Rance Purser missed wide. The Buffs capitalized with a touchdown on their next drive.

ASU answered two plays later when Ayden Arp hit Hunter Wallis on a post route for a 75-yard touchdown. Purser missed the extra point, keeping the Rams within one.

Arp gave the Rams their first lead late in the first quarter with a 56-yard scramble. He added his second passing touchdown early in the second, finding Donny Bishop on a 30-yard seam route to make it 20-7. Arp finished the game completing 13 of his 26 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns while adding 144 yards and another score on the ground off 20 carries.

After the defense forced a turnover on downs deep in WT territory, Israel Kaloso scored from 5 yards out. The Buffs cut the deficit to 10 before halftime, but Kaloso responded with a 13-yard touchdown run to push the lead back to 17 in the third quarter.

A Shamareon McKinnon interception set up a 40-yard field goal by Paden Maass, extending the Rams' lead to 20. WT closed the gap to six before Kaloso broke free for his third rushing touchdown, a 37-yard run. The Fort Worth native finished with 133 yards and three total touchdowns.

The Buffs were then able to rally with two touchdowns and sealed the comeback by blocking a 39-yard field goal attempt from Maass in the final minutes.
