SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team split their two games on day two of the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge Presented by West Texas Steel, dropping their opening contest to Missouri Western 1-0 before bouncing back for a 3-1 win over Ouachita Baptist.
A first-inning single from the Griffons scored the game's lone run as both teams were held to two hits apiece.
Ashton McMillan and
Lauren De La Cruz recorded the hits for the Rambelles; McMillan also gunned down a runner trying to tag on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to keep it a one-run game.
Cheyenne Floyd took the loss, only allowing two hits and one run in a complete-game effort while recording four strikeouts.
McMillan started a two-out rally in the bottom of the second inning of game two, singling to third base before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch.
Erin Plunkett would single in McMillan for the game's first run.
A Tiger error and a De La Cruz single in the fourth inning put two runners on for Plunkett, who doubled over the left fielder's head to score two runs, making it 3-0.
The Tigers would score a consolation run in the seventh inning to prevent being shut out.
Amelia Hatthorn improves to 4-0, throwing all seven innings and allowing six hits and one unearned run while striking out four Tigers. She did not issue a walk.
The Rambelles are 8-1 on the season and close out the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge Presented by West Texas Steel tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. against Texas A&M International.
