Wichita Falls, Texas – The Angelo State softball team dropped both of their games on Sunday against Midwestern State at Mustang Park, dropping game one 2-1 and game two 5-2.
The Rambelles' lone run in the first game came courtesy of a
Laylonna Applin RBI single in the third inning.
RBI doubles by the hosts in the fourth and sixth innings proved to be the difference.
Applin,
Zoey De Baca, and
Ashton McMillan recorded the only hits for the Rambelles;
Erin Plunkett and
Abby Brand also reached base via walk and hit by pitch, respectively.
Cheyenne Floyd took the loss in the circle, throwing six innings and allowing three hits, two walks, and two runs while striking out six.
Game two saw MSU score once in the third and twice in the fourth and fifth innings, giving them a 5-0 lead.
The Rambelles scored their first run in game two through
Lauren De La Cruz's groundout in the sixth inning.
The Rambelles would tack on a run in the seventh on a McMillan infield single. The Rambelles had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh but were ultimately unable to complete the comeback.
Brand and
Averie Gunther recorded multi-hit games, and McMillan and Plunkett had a hit apiece.
Raegan Sucher started game two in the circle and picked up the first loss in her collegiate career. The freshman threw three innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
Amelia Hatthorn,
Matie Wolkow, and
Bri Waters threw the final three innings in relief.
The Rambelles are now 26-8 on the season and 17-7 in LSC play. They continue their road trip next weekend, taking on UT Permian Basin and Sul Ross State.
