Silver City, N.M. – The Angelo State softball team closed out its road schedule in emphatic fashion on Friday afternoon in Silver City, defeating Western New Mexico 11-3 in game one before closing the road trip with an 18-6 decision in a five-inning run-rule win in game two.
The Rambelles kicked off the scoring in game one with a two-run home run by
Laylonna Applin, followed by a
Tatiana Trotter solo home run.
Lauren De La Cruz would single in a run to give the Rambelles a four-run advantage after the top of the first.
Trotter and
Ashton McMillan would hit back-to-back solo home runs the following inning to stretch the lead to six; the Mustangs would tack on their first run of the contest in the bottom half of the inning.
The score remained 6-1 until the sixth inning, when Applin hit her second two-run home run to make it 8-1.
Bri Waters would wrap up the Rambelles' scoring in the seventh with a three-run home run to center field.
Cheyenne Floyd improved to 22-5 with a complete-game win, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out ten Mustangs.
The Rambelles' six home runs are tied for the second-most in a single game in program history, matching the mark they set against Western New Mexico during the 2023 season.
Applin, Trotter, and McMillan would hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the opening frame of game two; the hosts would score a run to make it 3-1 after one inning of play.
Waters opened the second inning with a solo home run, her third this season, the first run in a seven-run inning for the nation's seventh-ranked team.
An
Erin Plunkett RBI single and a Trotter two-RBI double preceded a sacrifice fly from McMillan and a Gunther RBI double. Waters wrapped up the scoring in the inning with a run-scoring single to left field.
The Mustangs scored twice in the second and fourth innings, making it 10-5.
The Rambelles would score eight runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Applin drove in the first run on a fielder's choice, and McMillan's infield single plated another run. Trotter stole home for another run, and De La Cruz tacked on another run on an RBI single.
Zoey De Baca drove in two runs on a double, and
Abby Brand hit her second home run in 2025, a two-run shot to score the 18
th run, the most runs the Rambelles have scored in a single game this season.
Amelia Hatthorn earned her 12
th win of the season, throwing the first three innings.
Matie Wolkow finished the game in the circle, pitching the final two innings, allowing three hits and one run.
The Rambelles are 41-9 overall and 33-8 in LSC play. The Rambelles close the regular season next weekend when they host Midwestern State and No. 1 West Texas A&M.
