SAN ANGELO – In the second half of a home-and-home series against Lubbock Christian, the Angelo State softball team swept the Lady Chaps on Sunday afternoon at Mayer Softball Field, taking game one 7-3 before completing the sweep with a 4-1 victory in game two.
The Lady Chaps kicked off the scoring in game one with a solo home run in the third inning.
The Rambelles would respond with a six-spot in the bottom half of the inning, with
Abby Brand leading off the inning with a walk before scoring on
Laylonna Applin's single to left field.
Applin would score on a
Tatiana Trotter triple to give the Rambelles the lead.
Ashton McMillan's sacrifice fly would make it 3-1.
The Rambelles would score three more runs on a two-out rally, with two runs crossing the plate on a
Zoey De Baca double to right-center field.
Carter Smith's single up the middle scored De Baca to finish off the six-running inning.
The Lady Chaps would hit two solo home runs in the fourth inning, and
Averie Gunther would hit an opposite-field home run to put the game's scoreline at 7-3.
Cheyenne Floyd picked up her 18
th win of the season, throwing a complete game and allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts.
The Lady Chaps kicked off the scoring in the first inning of game two with a two-out double.
McMillan led off the second inning with a single before scoring on Gunther's two-run home run, her second of the day, which put the Rambelles ahead 2-1.
Applin doubled the next inning, scoring a run, and De Baca homered down the left field line in the fourth inning to cap off the game's scoring.
Amelia Hatthorn picked up her tenth win of the season, going the distance and allowing six hits and one run.
The Rambelles improve to 33-9 on the season and 24-8 in LSC play. They continue this homestand this upcoming weekend when they host Sul Ross State and UT Permian Basin.
