Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State softball team advanced to the Lone Star Conference Tournament Semifinals with a 5-1 win over sixth-seed Eastern New Mexico on Thursday afternoon at Schaeffer Park.
The Rambelles' first postseason win since 2022 came off the back of a three-run second inning, which saw
Ashton McMillan,
Averie Gunther, and
Carter Smith lead off the frame with back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases for
Lauren De La Cruz, whose double to right field scored a pair of runs.
An
Abby Brand groundout later in the inning would extend the Rambelles' lead to three.
McMillan's RBI double an inning later made it 4-0; the Greyhounds would strike for their only run on a solo home run in the fourth inning.
De La Cruz, on the first pitch in the bottom of the fourth, hit a solo home run of her own to make it 5-1, the game's final score line.
Five of the six home runs De La Cruz has hit as a Rambelle have happened at WT's Schaeffer Park.
Cheyenne Floyd earned her 25
th win this season, the first Rambelles pitcher to do so since 2018. She went the distance, allowing three hits, three walks, and one run while striking out seven Greyhounds.
The Rambelles improve to 44-11 on the season. The nation's seventh-ranked team will take on the winner of UT Tyler-Cameron tomorrow at 2 p.m.
