SAN ANTONIO, Texas— The Angelo State University women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes against St. Mary's University on Saturday night at Sigma Beta Chi Field, but the Rambelles ultimately fell 2-0 to the Rattlers.
Angelo State showed resilience throughout the contest, with goalkeeper
Claire Stoermer providing a strong defensive presence against a St. Mary's attack that generated 14 shots, including seven on target. Stoermer recorded five saves, keeping the Rambelles within reach throughout much of the match.
St. Mary's opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Isabella Salas found the back of the net off an assist from Kamora Hall. Despite trailing at halftime, Angelo State continued to compete and looked for opportunities to get back into the match during the second half.
The Rambelles created several offensive opportunities of their own, finishing with three shots, including two on goal.
Carley Martinez and
Sienna Schutte each recorded a shot on target, while the Angelo State defense worked to limit additional scoring chances.
Angelo State continued to fight late into the second half, but St. Mary's added an insurance goal in the 90th minute when Helen Lazaro scored her 11th goal of the season, with Hall recording her second assist of the night.
Despite the result, Stoermer's five saves and the team's continued effort against a strong attacking performance from St. Mary's provided bright spots for the Rambelles.
The Belles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they take on UT Tyler in Tyler.
