Late Rally Comes Up Short as No. 9 Rams Falls to No. 4 UT Tyler

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The No. 9 Angelo State baseball team scored nine runs in the eighth inning but came up short in a 12-11 loss to No. 4 UT Tyler on Sunday in the series finale at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

With the loss, the Rams fell to 3-3 on the season and dropped their first series of the year.

UT Tyler took control early, hitting four home runs and a double to score nine runs in the first inning.

Angelo State got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Austin Beck hit a solo home run to right field.

The Patriots added two more runs later in the game, capitalizing on multiple Rams' miscues to extend the lead to 10.

Both teams scored in the sixth inning. UT Tyler pushed across a run on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, while Christian Garnette answered for the Rams with an RBI double to left-center that scored Payton Bush.

Angelo State mounted its comeback in the eighth. Jordan Kelly and Beck delivered RBI hits to drive in three runs, and after the bases were loaded again, Chase Becker drew a walk and Tate Green hit a two-run double. Following a pitching change, Garrett Wallace singled in a run, Green scored on a wild pitch, and Garnette added an RBI triple to cut the deficit to one.

The Rams threatened again in the ninth, getting the tying run to second base, but a strikeout ended the game.

Angelo State returns to action Friday when it begins a four-game road series at Sul Ross State beginning Feb. 13.
