SAN ANGELO, Texas – Despite 86 receiving yards from
Donny Bishop and a pair of touchdowns from
Cameron Dischler, the Angelo State University football team fell to Fort Hays State, 35-14, Thursday night at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union.
With the Week Zero loss, the Rams open the 2026 season 0-1 and have dropped four consecutive games dating back to Nov. 1 of last season.
Angelo State finished the night with 227 yards of total offense and converted just one of nine third-down opportunities. Fort Hays State totaled 440 yards of offense and held advantages in both the turnover margin, 3-1, and time of possession, 37:05 to 22:55.
Defense controlled the opening quarter, with the two teams combining for just one first down across their first five drives. The Tigers threatened late in the quarter, but the Rams' defense held near the red zone to force a missed field goal.
The Blue and Gold struck first when
Hunter Boudreaux intercepted a Fort Hays State pass for the first interception of his career. The turnover set up Dischler, who capped the ensuing drive with his first rushing touchdown of the season.
Fort Hays State answered later in the quarter, using a pair of short passes to set up long runs and eventually tie the game heading into halftime.
The Tigers received the ball to begin the second half and put together a 14-play drive that resulted in the go-ahead touchdown. Fort Hays State added another score later in the third quarter after recovering a Rams fumble.
Angelo State responded early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to one score.
Ayden Arp connected with Bishop before Dischler found the end zone for the second time on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Arp, making his second career start, completed 13 of 23 passes for 135 yards and one interception.
The Tigers responded with another touchdown drive to extend their lead before adding a fifth touchdown late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
The Rams return to action Thursday, Sept. 3, traveling to Gunnison, Colorado, to take on No. 11 Western Colorado.
