Prior to ASU: Spent two seasons as a member of the West Texas A&M football team and redshirted his freshman season.

High School: Named to the All District 1-1A First Team as a punter following his senior season at White Deer High School where he was a three-year letterwinner...Also played linebacker and runningback for the Bucks and was named team MVP his senior season...Earned academic all-state honors during junior and senior years...Competed on the track and field team, tennis team, and was a two-year member of the basketball team...Regional qualifier in 2005 in the sprint relay...As a senior in 2006 was a district champion 300 meter hurdles and regional qualifier in the sprint relay, 300 meter hurdles and 800 meter relay...also qualified for regionals in tennis.
