Bobby Wilson

Bobby Wilson enters his second season at Angelo State. Specializing in cross country/distance and vertical jumps, Wilson brings over 10 years of coaching expertise to the Ram’s cross country and track and field teams. Since his arrival in the fall of 2022, his athletes have seen remarkable success.

Wilson’s first season coaching cross country fall of 2023
Wilson has played a pivotal role in the development of the distance runners, pole vaulters and high jumpers. His coaching led to All-Lonestar honors, 8 NCAA Indoor and outdoor Championship appearances 8 athletes, and 6 All-Americans with one being a national champion.
 
In 2023, Wilson coached Junior Jacobe Jones to second in the indoor and outdoor Lonestar Conference Championships in the pole vault. Jones qualified for the indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships and placed 5th at the NCAA outdoor championships for his first All-American honor as well as improving his personal best mark from 5.05m(16-6.75) in 2022 to 5.31m(17-5).  The men’s and women’s vaulters outscored the conference at the outdoor Lonestar Championships.
 
Wilson's impact continued as he coached the distance runners to all new personal bests by more than a minute in the 5k on the track and the 3k steeple chase where they scored big points to help the teams to second place finishes at the Lonestar Championships.

The NCAA released team rankings throughout the 2023 season. Wilson’s men’s vault group ranked within the top-10 nationally.

Prior to Angelo State, Wilson coached at Davidson, Central Michigan, Bucknell and William and Mary where he coached many Conference champions, school records, National academic All-Americans, National qualifiers and NCAA All-Americans.
