Ruiz, a seven-time All-American, national champion at Angelo State and three-time Mexican national champion, returned home to Angelo State as an assistant coach in 2016.

The former national champion found success quickly after being named an assistant, as five student-athletes placed in the top 28 of the heptathlon and Kami Norton broke the ASU school record in the pentathlon in just her first season.

Overall, Ruiz has coached three individual national champions, 16 All-Americans, 13 Lone Star Conference individual champions and three student-athletes to new school records. She also played a key role on the coaching staff as ASU swept both the men's and women's team LSC team titles for the 2018 outdoor season.

Prior to being hired as a full-time assistant, Ruiz spent time as a volunteer coach from 2013-2016 years, guiding three individuals to All-American honors in the hurdles and decathlon. She also helped nine student-athletes to Lone Star Conference Championships and mentored one state medalist in the long jump.

While volunteer coaching, Ruiz competed internationally for Mexico. She is a three-time Mexican National Champion and former national record holder in the heptathlon. She competed in the 2013 Central American and Caribbean Games winning the heptathlon. Ruiz also qualified for the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2012 Iberoamerican Games.

Ruiz attended ASU as an undergrad and competed in several events for the Rambelles before moving into a graduate assistant role from 2010-2012, when she worked with the 100 and 400 hurdlers.

Ruiz earned her master’s degree and bachelor’s degree both at Angelo State. During her collegiate career, she helped ASU win the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships and was a leg on the national championship 4x400-meter relay.

She holds certification in both strength and conditioning as well as jumps from the USTFCCCA Track and Field Academy.
