Former Angelo State All-American Ronnie Gaines has inked a minor-league deal with the Chicago White Sox, it was announced on Thursday.
Gaines finished his career as the Rams' leader in batting average (.384), slugging percentage (.581) and on-base percentage (.468), and was named to Baseball America Magazine's All-American second team in 2006. He was also an All-Lone Star Conference South Division first team selection in both his seasons in a Ram uniform.
Upon completion of his collegiate career, Gaines signed a free-agent deal with the San Angelo Colts of the United Baseball League where he played part of 2006 and all of 2007. In 2007 he was named the Colts Most Valuable Player and UBL Rookie of the Year.
Gaines was the first All-American selection in the history of the Ram baseball program.
