The NCAA announced the field for the Division II Track & Field National Championships on Tuesday and 16 members of the Angelo State squad will be making the trip to Charlotte, N.C. The event is scheduled to take place on May 24-26 at the Irwin Belk Complex.
The Rambelles posted 12 qualifiers while the ASU men's team will send four to the national meet. Leading the way for the women is sophomore Adree Lakey who will be competing in four events - shot put, discus, javelin and hammer. Adree's older sister and senior Kandra Lakey will throw the javelin and the discus while junior Culley Jo Dawson rounds out the ASU throwers in the discus and shot put.
Two pole vaulters will compete in the national meet representing the Rambelles as senior Kasey Gierke and sophomore Danielle Dorsey will make the trip to Charlotte. Rounding out the women's party heading East is senior Trista McIntyer (1,500), freshman Andria Nussey (heptathlon, long jump), sophomore Kyndel Howell (long jump), senior Daniela Swearingen (400 hurdles) and sophomore Ashley Painter (400 hurdles). Swearingen and Painter will also compete in the 4x400 relay and will be joined by freshmen Ontoria Robinson and Crystal Ruiz.
On the men's side, junior Justin Boyd will look to improve on his national runner-up performance from last year as he competes in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior thrower Spencer Tyler will compete in the discus and shot put while junior Chad Schaertl will join Tyler in the discus. Junior Ryan McWilliams will look to earn a second All-American certificate in the decathlon and he has also qualifed in the 110-meter hurdles.
