Sophomore Caroline Cleveland was named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Cleveland was solid on defense for Angelo State last week against conference foes Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M. The sophomore libero from Abilene collected 28 digs in two matches, averaging a team-high 4.67 digs per set. Cleveland notched a season-high 19 digs in the ‘Belles’ match against West Texas A&M on Saturday and was consistent in the back row for the Rambelles as she helped limit Eastern New Mexico to a .111 hitting percentage last Thursday. Cleveland’s defensive prowess held ASU’s opponents to a .191 hitting percentage. She is tied for the team-lead with 3.17 digs per set on the year.
