Chelsey Walters was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday, after she helped lead the nationally ranked Angelo State softball team to a 9-0 start.

In the leadoff spot, Walters set the table for the Rambelles, boasting a team-best .528 on-base percentage and a .469 (15-for-32) batting average. The Odessa native has scored 14 runs, tallied six RBIs, and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases.

Angelo State opened the 2011 season at the St. Mary's Invitational in San Antonio Feb. 5-7. The Rambelles swept through the tournament as Walters went 6-for-17 (.353).

Walters' hot bat continued at the ASU Blue and Gold Classic, hitting .600 (9-for-15) and improving her hitting streak to eight-consecutive games. In their 13-3 win against Washburn on Sunday, the sophomore collected four hits—including two triples—scored three times and had two RBIs in Angelo State's most lopsided victory of the season.
