Jeffrey Asby was selected for his solid performance last weekend against Southeastern Oklahoma as the Diamond Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Asby, a 6-1 right hander from Centerville via Navarro Junior College, made two appearances on the mound for the Rams and pitched four spotless innings in helping ASU to a 3-1 series win over the Savage Storm. His first appearance came in Friday's second game when he tossed two innings in relief and surrendered only one hit with four strikeouts, earning his first win of the season in an 8-4 victory. Appearance number two came in series finale on Saturday when he came on in relief of starter, and winner,
Michael Medrano and retired all six batters he faced with two strikeouts in a 4-2 ASU win.
For the weekend, Asby pitched four innings without allowing a run while surrendering one hit with six strikeouts. On the season, he is 1-0 without allowing a run over 10.1 innings with seven hits, nine strikeouts and two walks.
Asby and the Rams (7-4, 3-1 LSC) are in Lawton, Okla., to resume LSC play with a four-game series against Cameron (9-2, 3-1 LSC). The Rams and Aggies kick off the weekend with a seven inning/nine inning double header at 12 p.m. Friday.
