‘Belles Buck Bronchos, 4-1

Final Box

SAN ANGELO – Good things come in threes as Angelo State's Shannon Dean, Ashley Brown and Hanna Hories all scored their first goal of the season in a decisive 4-1 win over Lone Star Conference (LSC) foe Central Oklahoma Friday evening at the ASU Soccer Field. The Rambelles outshot the Bronchos, 17-9, in the contest, while Ashley Brown had a game-high six shots with two of those coming on goal.

Angelo State (5-3-1, 2-0-0 LSC) has not scored more than three goals in an entire game, but were able to net four goals in the first half against UCO (5-4, 1-1 LSC). The first goal came in the 18th minute when Lauren Carnes fired a corner kick into the box that found Dean's right foot who recorded the match's first goal. The 'Belles second goal came in the 26th minute when Carnes launched a shot from 25-yards out that the Bronchos' goalie could not field cleanly.

“We came out in the first half and really executed what we've been working on in practice, which was a strong offensive attack and getting open for one another,” said Carnes. “We kept moving for each other and getting open. We wanted to get the last touch, pass and make opportunities for each other and it didn't matter who got the goal.”

Horeis recorded her second assist of the season in ASU's third goal. The sophomore lifted a pass to Brown in the 29th minute and the senior was able to head the ball to the back of the net to go up field goal on UCO. The Bronchos countered in the 32nd minute when Brittni Walker headed a ball past the outstretched mitt of ASU keeper Melanie Peterson.  Central Oklahoma's momentum seized in the 35th minute when Hories knocked in the game's final goal and gave the 'Belles a 4-1 win.

“It's nice to be able to score foul goals on a quality opponent like UCO,” said third-year head coach Travis McCorkle. “UCO presented a lot of problems for us and our girls did a great job solving those problems. Our defense negated their chances and the opportunities the Bronchos did have were from distance.”

The Rambelles will continue conference play with a home match against Southwestern Oklahoma Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Field. For more information on Angelo State soccer, logon to our website at AngeloSports.com.
