WICHITA FALLS –
Alisa Meredith and Chelsea Gibson both reached a new season-high in kills as they helped lead the Rambelles over Midwestern State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23) Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Angelo State is on a four match winning streak and has won seven consecutive conference matches.

Meredith recorded a career-best 14 kills, with six digs and hit .379 in the contest. Gibson tallied a season-high 17 kills, with two service aces, a pair of block assists and hit .382 for Angelo State (11-10 overall, 7-1 LSC). Also notching a double-digit kill performance was freshman Kaelen Valdez. The outside hitter slammed 11 kills on 25 attempts with only one attack error. She hit .400 in the match and tallied two assists, and 14 digs to complete the double-double. Sophomore setter Alex Woolsey recorded another solid performance as she collected 41 assists, nine digs and three kills.

Gibson, Woolsey and Meredith were key performers in the first set, as they helped the 'Belles snap a 14-14 tie as the trio hammered out back-to-back-to-back kills. Midwestern State (10-10 overall, 4-4 LSC) kept the game close, as they never trailed by more than four points in the set. Meredith closed out the first set with her fifth kill of the day, giving ASU a 25-21 win over host MSU.

The Rambelles were at it again in the second set, as they took a 10-6 lead on two Meredith kills and a Gibson block forcing the Mustangs into a timeout. The break in action did not stop the 'Belles as they went on a 7-1 run sparked by a Gibson kill. With a 12 point lead (24-12), MSU tried to rally back, closing the gap to seven points (24-17). With the Mustangs within striking distance, Gibson hammered out another kill to put the game away, 25-17.

Midwestern State took the court determined to hit, taking a quick 2-0 lead in the third set. The conference foes battled it out in a hard-fought set that included nine ties and five lead changes. Freshman middle blocker and right side Maddie Huth came off the bench with the 'Belles trailing by three (17-14) and slammed a kill over the MSU front line. Huth's kill was the turning point in the third set for the Rambelles as they turned a three point deficit into a two point lead (23-21). With the Mustangs trailing by just one point (24-23), Valdez notched her 11th and final kill of the match to secure the sweep, 25-23.

Midwestern State was led by Shelbi Stewart's 12 kills and .409 hitting percentage and Kiara Jordan's 16 digs. Taryn Westerman contributed 18 assists and five digs in the set back.

Angelo State will return the Stephens Arena Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. as it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma in the Rambelles' annual Dig Pink match for Breast Cancer Awareness. Fans are encouraged to show their support and turn the Junell Center pink.
