Final Stats (.pdf Format)

SAN ANGELO –
A trio of 'Belles recorded a new career-high in kills as the Angelo State volleyball team defeated East Central, 3-1 (25-16, 25-11, 20-25, 25-18) Saturday afternoon at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center. The Rambelles slammed 56 kills in four sets and extended their winning streak to six matches on Homecoming weekend.

Freshman Kaelen Valdez notched a new career-high in kills with 16 against East Central (3-23, 1-9 LSC). Valdez performed well all around for Angelo State (13-10, 9-1 LSC) as she contributed a match-high 17 digs, collecting her seventh double-double of the season. She also tallied three total blocks, a service ace and an assist in the match.

Valdez wasn't the only top performer for the 'Belles, as sophomore Alisa Meredith slammed a career-high 15 kills on 31 attempts and only committed one attack error to hit a sizzling .452 in the contest. Meredith collected nine digs, a service ace and a block assist for the 'Belles.

Also tallying a new career-high in kills was freshman Maddie Huth, who registered eight kills and hit .500 for ASU. Huth also recorded six digs and three block assists.

The Rambelles took an early lead in the first set after breaking a 4-4 tie on a Tigers' miscue. Meredith hammered out back-to-back kills to put the 'Belles up 7-4. With the game tipping in their favor, freshman Shelby Warick stepped up and threw down a service ace to force an East Central timeout. With a four-point (8-4) advantage, the Rambelles continued to add to their lead pushing the score to 20-13. The Tigers tried to battle back, but it was too late as the 'Belles took the first set, 25-16, on a service ace by setter Alex Woolsey.

Woolsey had a season-best three service aces in the contest and tallied 45 assists, four digs, four kills and two block assists. She started out the second set with a kill then took to the service line. With Woolsey serving, the Rambelles racked up eight consecutive points. During the 8-0 run, Huth, Valdez and Julie Kennedy each had a kill and Woolsey notched her second ace of the afternoon. The Rambelles held the lead throughout the set, never trailing and never allowing the Tigers to come closer than six points (8-2). Angelo State held East Central to just .065 hitting and cruised to a 25-11 victory.

The Tigers returned to the court for the third set determined to avoid the sweep. East Central out-hit Angelo State .205-.146 in the third set. The Tigers and the 'Belles rallied back-and-forth as the two squads evened the match a dozen times before a Rambelle miscue gave the Tigers the lead for good. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run to end the game by a score of 25-20.

The two teams battled it out again in the fourth set. With the score knotted at nine, Angelo State took the final lead of the game on a block by Chelsea Gibson and Valdez. That seemed to be the turning point for the 'Belles as the block sparked an 8-2 run for ASU. With a comfortable lead (17-11), the Rambelles pushed the Tigers to match-point and earned a 25-18 win on an East Central attack error.

East Central was led offensively by Danielle Essix who registered nine kills and Shalya May who contributed 21 assists. Defensively, Megan Kimak notched 16 digs for the Tigers.

The 'Belles look to continue their winning ways next week when they play three road matches at Incarnate Word (Oct. 28), St. Mary's (Oct. 29), and Texas A&M-Kingsville (Oct. 30).
