SAN ANGELO –
Sophomore Lindsey Mahone led the Angelo State women's basketball team with 17 points and eight rebounds, but the Belles' rally fell short as they dropped a 68-54 decision to Southeastern Oklahoma at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center Saturday afternoon. The loss was the Rambelles' first defeat at home this season.

Mahone also added a pair of steals and an assist in the setback, while junior Paige Weishuhn tallied 12 points, seven rebounds, a block and one assist for the Belles (4-4). Senior Camille Perkins recorded 10 points, seven boards, two assists and a steal in the contest.

The Rambelles got off to a slow start in the first half, as they were unable to connect for a field goal until the 16-minute mark when Mahone sunk a jumper. Despite the field goal drought, the Belles were on target with their free throws as they made four to stay in contention with Southeastern Oklahoma (8-1). The aforementioned jumper gave the Belles their only lead of the game, 6-4.

The Savage Storm took control of the game after forward Jessica Hesse came off the bench and nailed a trey to put the visitors up by three as they regained the lead. Southeastern Oklahoma piled on the points as the Savage Storm went on an 11-2 run to take a ten-point advantage (24-14). SOSU put together another 10-2 run to take their largest lead of the game (31-18). The Savage Storm continued their offensive surge and took a 35-22 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Belles field goal shooting hindered them in the second half as well. They finished off the first half having not made a field goal since 8:05 and were unable to connect until the 18-minute mark in the second half of the game. However, the hard-nosed Rambelles would not give up. ASU rallied back and went on an 11-2 run (43-47) sparked by Giselle Aguirre three pointer.

With the game within reach, the Rambelles were able to pull within two on an Aguirre lay-up (48-50), but Southeastern Oklahoma put together a 16-2 run to push their lead to 14 points (66-52). With the game largely in their favor, the Savage Storm claimed the victory by a score of 68-54.

Junior Whitney Coffey was the Savage Storm's leading scorer with 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. She also contributed four blocks, one steal and one assist. Elizabeth Dean came off the bench and tallied 11 points, two boards and an assist.
