2010 Don Hansen All-Super Region Four Team (.pdf)
SAN ANGELO – Angelo State specialists
George Shamblen and
Garrett Tidwell added to their postseason honors list as the two joined
John Norcott on the 2010 Don Hansen All-Super Region Four team announced by the Don Hansen Football Committee Wednesday.
Shamblen and Tidwell, already members of the Daktronics All-America First Team, were selected as members of Hansen's All-Super Region Four First Team. Norcott earned third team honors on offense at fullback. The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
Shamblen, a junior from Miles, recorded the fifth-best punting average in the nation at 43.39 yards per kick during the 2010 season and helped Angelo State lead the nation in net punting with 39.66 yards per punt. The fourth ASU punter to be named an all-American with his Daktronics selection earlier this month, Shamblen placed 18 punts inside the 20 and logged 10 kicks of 50 yards or more in his first season back to football after a three-year absence. Shamblen was also named an All-Lone Star Conference South Division First Team player and was named the top punter on the Daktronics All-Super Region Four First Team.
Tidwell, a senior from Boyd, was named to the first team as a kick returner after returning two punts and a kickoff for touchdowns during the 2010 campaign. Tidwell was fourth nationally with 17.5 yards per punt return and posted a top-10 mark for kick return yardage with 28.08 yards per return. Tidwell was the top return specialist on the Daktronics All-America Team. Tidwell, who closed his ASU career as the leader in single game (182), single season (740) and career (2,049) kick return yardage, was recently selected as the Stripes team offensive MVP after helping his squad win the 2010 All-American Bowl in Minneapolis.
Norcott, a senior from Norton, Mass., was a third team selection at fullback after scoring four touchdowns in 2010 and blocking for numerous others. Norcott joined Tidwell and Angelo State
Josh Neiswander in helping the Stripes team defeat the Stars, 30-10, in the All-American Bowl. Norcott was also named a All-LSC Second Team selection this season.
Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003. The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2010 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named in January.
