SAN ANGELO, Texas –
Megan Schaffer found the back of the net twice in a five minute span and
Katie Camlin added a goal to lead the Angelo State soccer team over Adams State, 3-1, Friday evening at the ASU Soccer Field.
Angelo State (2-0-1) kept the tempo moving forward in the first half, outshooting the Grizzlies 10-3 and holding a 3-0 advantage on corner kicks. Camlin, a freshman from Carrollton, cashed in her first career goal in the 34th minute to give the Rambelle's an early 1-0 advantage. On the goal, Camlin struck the ball cleanly and although the Adam's State (1-2-0) keeper got a hand on it, the ball had enough on it to trickle past the end line.
The Grizzlies tied the match in the 52nd minute of play when Amber Drumm scored her second goal of the season. This is the first ball ASU's goalie,
Melanie Peterson, let between the pipes in 290 minutes of action. Adams State's momentum seized quickly when Schaffer knocked in a penalty kick 24 seconds later to put the 'Belles back on top, 2-1. Schaffer knocked in one more goal off a soft pass from
Brandie DeBacker in the box to secure Angelo State's second win of the season.
“Brandie out-jumped everyone and headed the ball right to me,” said Schaffer. “She did all the hard work and I just had to kick it in. It was good to get two goals in front of our home crowd and we're just excited about playing Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday.”
The 'Belles return to the pitch Sunday and square off with Colorado State-Pueblo (1-2) in the final game of the ASU Invitational at 2 p.m. For more information, log on to www.AngeloSports.com .
